Holidays at Katie Davis Design

With the Holidays in full swing, we wanted to offer a few ideas to keep things simple if you’re just now decorating but still wanting a warm, elevated feel this holiday season.

1. Greenery and plants add much more than you think.

Add wreaths to the door and windows (both exterior and / or interior), add garland to the porch, fire place, tables and doorways, use poinsettias on the porch, and place fresh flowers in the kitchen and bathrooms. You will be surprised at how much this alone can add to your space!

2. Find decor that fits your space.

When decorating for the holidays, make sure to find things that enhance your space rather than take away from it. Before purchasing an item, ask yourself “Does this compliment what I already own?” Your home’s year round decor is the best backdrop for holiday sprucing. Add color, texture and pattern that really brings out the things you already love about your home. You will feel less stress if you work with what you have instead of feeling the need to completely redecorate everything during the holiday season.

3. Stay true to what you love.

The holidays are a time to remember what makes you slow down, enjoy the moment, and look back on fond memories all while creating new ones. Be it stockings you use year after year, ornaments that tell a story or magnolia leaves that remind you of the way your family decorated your childhood home, don’t forget to use the things that you love. Sure, there are pieces that will only draw a memory for you or your family, but that is okay - not everything has to be photo worthy.

4. Have fun!

Never be afraid to add a little bit of personality to your holiday decor. Sprinkle small things here and there that just make you smile! The holiday season is not one that needs to add extra stress, so don’t be afraid to be a little light hearted in what you add to your space. One of the best parts of the holidays is the fun and laughter that our loved ones bring - so why not add fun decor here and there?

We hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and a Merry Holiday season!
