A Dining Room To Be Adored

Bright Dining room design | Houston Interior Design

This project exudes joy. The symmetry, the lines clean, and the calming blues make this room feel like you’re walking in a dream.

Our clients owned this traditional home in Houston’s West U neighborhood, and actually lived in Malaysia for work for a while, which influenced a lot of their style and hope for the space. They moved home to Houston during the pandemic and wanted to update the rooms to feel fresh, light and joyful.

The dining room previously had wallpaper, but it was a little bit dated and updating it was a fairly small change in terms of renovations that made a significant difference. With the end of goal of breathing fresh life into the space, we knew Peter Dunham’s Blue Indian Chintz wallpaper would get the job done. It was something new that offered a modern take on a traditional palette.

Without wanting to move too modern, we kept the table traditional and landed on a 20th Century British dining table with a nicely grained and inlaid top atop a carved base to juxtapose the more contemporary elements of the space. For the chairs, we wanted a contrast and unexpected pattern play and used a bold Soane fabric with a dark trim that coordinated beautifully and added quote a bit of dimension to the space. We rounded out the space with a strategically spaced mirror that both made the space feel larger and added an extra level of attention to the simple yet stunning Visual Comfort lighting (that we sourced through trusted friends at MM Lighting! With a play on both new and old, we just loved the finished product here. Dinner plans, anyone?
