A Few Resolutions For 2023
Be Confident with Color Choices
The days of all white homes are becoming a distant memory. Find a few base colors and pull them through every area of your home. You will be amazed at what repeating color can do to the entire flow of your space! Our one pro-tip : When it comes to paint, make sure you paint a few different samples and observe them at different points in the day to see how they respond to light. Also, try asking your local paint shop for colors at 75% if certain colors feel too bold.
2. Let Your Home Tell a Story
Take the time to search for the antique pieces and learn the story behind them. Let them complement the narrative your family is creating in your home instead of compete with it. It sometimes takes time to find the right thing, but it’s worth it to visit antique shows like those in Round Top, TX or the small, local shop in your neighborhood to find hidden treasures. Ask questions about the pieces, too. Sometimes stories of old make you fall in love with pieces even more!
4. Approach your Home as a Space You Live In - Not as a Photo to Take
At Katie Davis Design, we approach design in a holistic manner; working on a room as a whole, rather than piece-by-piece, resulting in a cohesive space that tells a complete story. The goal in every project is to build an environment of comfort, function, beauty and joy. Make this a goal when thinking about your own space. You know the people that live within the walls of your home best - what do you need to have both a beautiful and a functional home?
5. Find Inspiration in Unlikely Places
There is so much new on the horizon. Quite literally like pages in an unturned book, you can find inspiration at every corner if you’re on the lookout for it. Be in the colors that are the backdrop of your favorite vacation, the book that you’ve read to your little one for one thousandth time, inspiration for uncommon creativity is all around you. Have fun with it. Try new things and take risks this year - both in designing your home and in story you’re writing! We can’t wait to see what 2023 brings.
